The Final Project

I have always been really into fashion and trends that happen in our culture since I was really young. I believe I have a good eye for fashion and that is what can separate me from other artists who like to do fashion shoots as myself. I tried to revolve my project around products that seem to be something that comes out of a lookbook for a brand. So for me this meant taking close pictures of objects that make them the center of attention for the image I capture. This varied through multiple objects in my final project compared to my midterm project because for this instalment I was able to have my friends model some things for me and make them come to life. I tried to show off certain things such as shoes, jeans, shirts, and hats. I had my friends pick some outfits after i told them what my concept was, and I also let them borrow some outfits as well so I could get my full idea out. I am not used to shooting outside and having models. I am used to photographing objects relatively close to my home so that would give me full control of my shots and how they came out. Once I finally had to get out and shoot people wearing these objects and accessories it became a whole different feeling. Trying to achieve good pictures that focus on the clothing but also have small details around the environment that compliment the garments, but yet don't take away from the focus of my project. It was all trial and error with a lot of patients trying to shoot outside but overall I believe I got some really good pictures that I am proud of. It made it a little easier on me only shooting products because I feel if I tried shooting my models as portraits it would take away from the products, and also may have made my models uncomfortable since they are just my friends and don't really pose for photographs and portitats. I wish I was able to gather up more models so I could have a lot more variety in my photographs but a lot of my friends were busy and all my shoots were downtown, so getting more models downtown to shoot with me was a struggle. With the friends I had helping me we stuck to a certain location and just moved a block or so to capture a new background and give variety to the shoots even though it was the same model and sometimes even the same clothes or shoes they had on in other pictures. This is still something I am practicing but getting out and doing it gave me the confidence I needed to just get out and try new things and practice till I can hone in on my own style till my work speaks for itself compared to others with the same photography interests as me.

The Midterm Project

I have always been passionate about shoes and fashion. Ever since I was young I took an interest into looking good and dressing well. Shoes played a big part in that, they can either make or break an outfit. To some people it may just be shoes why are you so obsessed with them, but when I was younger I couldn't really afford the shoes I wanted. As I grew up that obsession for shoes lingered in my mind waiting for the day I'd be able to buy my own shoes. When I was able to afford them It felt like everything came full circle. This project was the projection of that obsession as me as a kid and images I would see promoting these shoes that sparked my interest when I was younger. I played around with different textures of the shoes, names of the shoes, the colorways, and different lighting to try and give these shoes justice as to what they mean to me. It took me a couple days to shoot this project trying to find the right concepts and ideas for each pair and I feel like each picture gives the shoe their own personality and that's exactly what I set out to do. As this is a precursor to our final project I wanted to set the stage for my interest in fashion and clothing and hopefully this was obvious in this work. This was my first time ever trying to create product shots and in the future I plan to dabble with photoshop to create flyers that recreate the time these actual shoes were releases which range all the way back to 1985, but at least for this project I wanted to keep it raw and practice on my camera skills with something I thoroughly enjoy.

Portrait Assignment

Evidence Assignment

My project was split into two different themes, but they both tried to capture the same idea overall. For the first half I tried to capture the city and its surroundings since it would show how much change the land has gone through in order to accommodate humans. While the land has been overtaken by buildings and roads you can see that this location was built over the great plains of Colorado. It is a mixture of the earth's natural state and the addition of human interaction and civilization. I also tried to make sure to capture the sunset in the abyss since behind the sunset there are mountains which are mostly untouched by humans since it is a terrain which is harder to adapt to and build around, for the most part, untouched by humans and their greed to take over land. This transitions into the second half of my project as I took a trip to the mountains with my family. As I explained earlier the mountains are a tough terrain to adapt to, but that doesnt mean people have not tried. Through the images I captured I tried to convey how humans have transformed the land either significantly via roads that split the land and allow humans to cross through at any times, to minor changes to the land such as rails that run across the snowy land. Overall all these photos represent how our land has been transformed and the evidence is clear as day as these photos capture the environment in real time. As time passes these locations are susceptible to change so capturing them in the moment is the only evidence to show that they were really there.

Motion Assignment

For this project I really tried to express myself with a new form of photography I have not tried before. With the use of lights and slow shutter speed I tried to represent myself through movement of light and objects. The light can be seen as an extension of energy an object or myself give off creating these photos.
